congratulations, Rishi Sunak!

The new Prime Minister of Britain.

Also, the first British PM of color and the first Hindu at number 10 Downing Street.

We wish you luck (you’re going to need it.)

    • Fingers crossed. The current disastrous economic situation today of the U.K. has largely, not entirely, been caused by Brexit. Brexit was founded on a lie. Bojo pushed that lie to become Prime Minister. But eventually, it all came tumbling down. Bojo reminds me of Tweedledum.

      Tweedledum and Tweedledee
      Agreed to have a battle;
      For Tweedledum said Tweedledee
Had spoiled his nice new rattle.

  1. Too soon for congratulations: Suella Braverman just appointed Home Secretary; she had been fired by Liz Truss for impropriety. “Braverman stands on the right wing of the Conservative Party, is a supporter of Brexit, supports the withdrawal of the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights and supports sending cross-Channel migrants to Rwanda.” Wikipedia

    • I can’t stand Suella Braverman and don’t understand why Sunak would appoint her as anything. You should know, Jeanne, that I’m not at all a fan of the British Conservative Party. They almost resemble the Republican Party in the USA. But someone has to dig the country out of the mess it’s in, and I believe Sunak is the only person to do that.
I’m not a fan of the Labour Party either. Sunak is the “man of the moment”. Let’s give him a chance.

      • Judging by his other choices for cabinet Sunak is only going to dig the country into a deeper hole. Coffey for environment: “And Coffey! after her admission that she hands out antibiotics like Smarties: aside from being illegal is evidence of staggering ignorance and stupidity about over-use of anti-biotics contributing to a-b resistance. Literally criminal idiocy. A dreadful dreadful cabinet. ” Simon Schama

  2. Rishi Sunak’s competency aside, the First Past The Post electoral system too-frequently puts the Conservatives into office. And these Conservatives sound similar to British-Commonwealth-er Canada’s brand: Fundamental human necessities are not really their concern.

While boasting of and promising ‘balanced’ budgets, they callously omit the humane equation, as though very tight finances are of any good to the large portion (if not the majority) of those human beings who are struggling to make ends meet.

Assuming they even were genuinely balanced and not just creative accounting fudge-it budgets, smiling and spouting nonsensical platitudes that somehow simply by being in the black the budget will leave sufficiently ‘more money in people’s pockets’ in these financially very tough times is, at best, insensitive. … Also, as conservatives, they sure subsidize corporate causes and allow Big Industry to pollute our natural environment quite liberally.

    • I have responded to your comments in capital letters:

Rishi Sunak’s competency aside, the First Past The Post electoral system too-frequently puts the Conservatives into office.

THE LABOUR PARTY WAS IN POWER FROM 1997 to 2007.

And these Conservatives sound similar to British-Commonwealth-er Canada’s brand: Fundamental human necessities are not really their concern.

THESE CONSERVATIVES SOUND LIKE THE UTTERLY ABHORRENT AMERICAN REPUBLICAN PARTY.

While boasting of and promising ‘balanced’ budgets, they callously omit the humane equation, as though very tight finances are of any good to the large portion (if not the majority) of those human beings who are struggling to make ends meet.

I AGREE. THEIR AUSTERITY PROGRAM AND DRASTIC CUTS TO PUBLIC SERVICES WAS AND IS PLAIN CRUEL. BRITISH FILMMAKER, KEN LOACH, HAS PORTRAYED THIS IN MANY OF HIS FILMS. CHILD POVERTY, ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTH, IS A DARK STAIN ON THE NATIONAL CONSCIENCE.

….leave sufficiently ‘more money in people’s pockets’ in these financially very tough times is, at best, insensitive.

TRUE. BUT PEOPLE NEED HOPE IN THESE DIFFICULT TIMES.

NO MENTION OF BREXIT? A COLOSSAL ERROR WHICH HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE PAUPERIZATION OF BRITAIN. NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
